We visited this Basilica in November this year and had the good fortune to take some pictures. Have made a video so that you can get a glimpse at the Church.

The Basilica of Bom Jesus (Portuguese: Basílica do Bom Jesus; Konkani: Borea Jezuchi Bajilika) is a Catholic basilica located in Velha, Old Goa, in the Konkan region of India. The iconic church is a pilgrimage centre and recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The basilica is located in Old Goa, the former capital of Portuguese India, and holds the mortal remains of St Francis Xavier. St. Francis Xavier (born April 7, 1506, Xavier (Javier) Castle, near Sangüesa, Navarre [Spain]—died December 3, 1552.

His feast is celebrated on Dec 3 every year and is a very big feast in Goa. People flock from all around the country and to see the mortal remains encased in a crystal coffin. The Church itself is very ancient and the paintings inside bear testimony by their faded and dark colors.

The details of the Church’s official website and YouTube Channel are given in this image. Scan the QR code. The next exposition of the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier will be in Nov 2024 to Jan 2025. With the way the events of the world are unfolding, let’s pray to St. Francis Xavier that we will be considered worthy to be present at this time in Goa for the exposition.
